#WCW: Nazizi Hirji, AKA the First Lady of Kenyan HipHop

She is quite an introvert, who has been able to keep his personal life private for the longest time she has been in the music industry. You wouldn’t really know her, unless of cause you have an interest, but why not know the Kenyan Queen of Hip-hop, of the renowned Necessary Noize group?

The group, where Nazizi’s calls her 2nd home, has popular regional hits such as "Kenyan Gal, Kenyan Boy" and "Bless My Room".  Although mainly hip hop based, the group also does some reggae and R&B tracks. They are appreciated for their socially conscious lyrics that deal with issues affecting youth such as AIDS, drugs and politics.
She is the kind of a girl who loves keeping the “boy style” call it Tomboyish, with thick dreadlocks that falls right to her waist. She prefers jeans, T-shirts and snickers on stage to fancy dresses and 6-inch heels that have seen many female artists flip and fall before their fans. After all its hip-hop and she loves it her way.
One can imagine that Nazizi’s life is all about music but no, she has found use of her Psychology degree which she acquired from USIU, this, she says, fits with her music and helps her understand the human behaviors and actions. She is also an actress and set to feature on a Kenyan TV series dubbed Babylon, yet to be released.
Nazizi is one of the most decorated of all Kenyan artistes. She has won award from the Kisima to Chaguo la Teeniez, making her successful in the industry. What more can a musician want, other than seeing a shelf brim with trophies!
She is a wife and a mother of two, her sons; Feroze (Named after her late brother) and Tafari (Amharic for inspiration).
