Lady Justice Roselyn Nambuye |
Hon. Lady Justice Roselyn Nambuye has been a victim of GBV, having
been divorced in 1990, a marriage she attributes to her inability to have
children. She eventually accepted her first husbands remarriage to another
woman, who would give him the children he wanted. She was later married by a man
who admired her hard work so much, but because of the African Laws of Kids are
wealth, he was forced by the family to marry a 2nd wife despite him being okay
with Roselyn. Barreness was literally slammed on her face. She married again in
1994 and had step-children and step-grand children to take care of. Her carrier
in law, however, came by chance, having read about how few women were in the
Law industry, she made up her mind, to pursue Law and change facts. In 1973, she
pursued Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Nairobi, and graduated with
an upper 2nd class Honors, the only lady in that category. Since then she has
had a long journey studying and working at several stations in Kenya, Eldoret
being the longest. Nambuye has rose through ranks, to the Acting Resident
Magistrate position before she advanced to Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident
Magistrate, the first woman Principal Magistrate and ultimately the first woman
Chief Magistrate. In 1991, she was appointed the third female judge in the High
Court of Kenya and in 2011 she was appointed to the Court of Appeal. It has not
been easy either having to face criticisms and judgement from fellow judges.
Today, Roselyn serves as the chairperson of the Kenya Women and Judges
association, and she had worked against all odds to press for the hiring of
more women judges. Even with her inability to bare children of her own, the
Lady Justice is a proud mother of more than 100 foster kids, that she supports
through Education and financing. She trully enjoys giving back to the society.
She is our WCW today, and for her hardwork and persistence in making sure that
she makes it no matter the obstacles, she is an Iron Lady and a woman of
substance.
